In the newest Associated Press Georgia high school football poll, Thomson remained at No. 2 and Washington County stayed at No. 3 in advance of the teams’ game in Sandersville on Friday. Both squads are 8-0.
Only two other area teams are ranked, however, as Aquinas fell out of the Class A poll. The Irish were No. 3 two weeks ago, but two consecutive losses dropped them to 5-2.
One of those defeats came to Lincoln County, which is up a spot to No. 2 in Class A; No. 10 Wilkinson County gave Aquinas its second loss.
Up in Class AAAA, No. 3 Burke County is the fourth ranked local school.
Also, though no area teams are ranked in the Class AA poll, Washington-Wilkes and Screven County are in the receiving votes section.
