Biggers had a hand in all four offensive touchdowns for the Warriors in their 38-9 region win over Evans, and he scored the fifth on a pivotal interception return that capped a stellar night for the defense.

“I love playing defense,” the quarterback, defensive back and return specialist said. “Tonight, I loved the defensive side. I had fun on defense: coming up and making big tackles and having an interception for a touchdown.

“Our defense won us the game tonight.”

Shortly after Grovetown (2-5, 2-2 Region 2-AAAAA) re-took the slim lead it had at halftime, the Warriors broke the game open.

The Warriors went up 14-9 midway through the third quarter when Biggers connected with fellow senior Kimani Meekins on a 48-yard touchdown pass. Corey Stone followed with a 37-yard field goal.

Biggers then picked off an errant Chandler Shoemaker pass and took it 58 yards the other way for a score.

Down 24-9 after giving up 17 points in less than three minutes, Evans (3-4, 1-3 Region 2-AAAAA) saw its misfortune continue.

Desmond Sampson intercepted Shoemaker and returned it to the Evans 10. It took one play for Biggers to score.

Biggers finished with 109 rushing yards on 23 carries.

A turnover on downs and personal foul penalty for the Knights left the Warriors at the Evans 14. Again, they scored in one play, as Biggers found senior Hunter McBride wide open in the end zone.

Biggers completed all four of his passes, with three going for touchdowns. Senior Devin Bryant had the first score of the game on a 17-yard reception in the second quarter.

Evans was held to 183 total yards, had three turnovers, and didn’t score an offensive touchdown. The Knights’ only scores came on a second-quarter fumble return by David Mims and a 23-yard, third-quarter field goal by Jonathon White that gave Evans its only lead at 9-7.

Grovetown head coach Rodney Holder told his players during his postgame speech that he couldn’t have been prouder of the passion and energy they showed. He said the team has remained focused while playing a tough schedule in 2012.

“It’s just something that’s growing in the building with the kids,” he said of the team’s fighting spirit.
