COLUMBIA — Augusta Christian remained perfect, scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion with 31 seconds left in the game to beat six-time defending state champion Hammond 29-28 on Friday night in a South Carolina Independent Schools Association game.

On a drive that covered 65 yards in 10 plays, quarterback Tyler Roberson hit Nick Fortenberry on a 31-yard touchdown pass that pulled the Lions to within a point.

Instead of kicking the PAT to tie the game, the Lions went for the win with a 2-point conversion. It worked, with Roberson hitting Gaige Gilbert on a pass.

Augusta Christian lost to Hammond for the South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA title game in both 2006 and 2007.
