Big games aren’t unusual for Aquinas’ Brendan Douglas. If anything, they happen weekly.
The senior stars as a runner and linebacker, among other roles, meaning coach Matt LeZotte looks for different ways to get Douglas involved.
This past Friday, Douglas showed he’s adding receiver to his résumé.
Against Twiggs County, Douglas rushed for 245 yards and had 60 yards receiving in Aquinas’ 50-8 win. On 15 offensive touches – 13 rushes and two catches – Douglas scored six touchdowns. For his dominance, Douglas is The Augusta Chronicle’s Player of the Week.
“He puts up that kind of performance all the time,” LeZotte said. “We did a good job blocking for him, but some of the cuts he made were pretty fantastic.”
Through four games, Douglas has rushed for more than 650 yards as the Irish are ranked No. 4 in the state with a perfect 4-0 mark.
But life should get a little more difficult these next three weeks with Hancock Central, Lincoln County and Wilkinson County up next.
“We were pretty positive coming into this season,” Douglas said. “The coaches have us expecting to win every game and it’s a good thing to have. We go into every game thinking we’re going to win. If we keep working hard and doing the right things, I think we can do something special.”
