Thomson football ranked No. 2 in Georgia high school poll

Thomson football is almost at the top.

The Bulldogs moved to No. 2 in Class AAA in the newest Associated Press Georgia high school football poll, going up three spots after beating then-No. 4. St. Pius X, 21-14. Thomson, at its best ranking since the 2006 season, received one first-place vote and looks up to only Peach County.

Fellow Region 3-AAA member Washington County is right behind Thomson. This Friday, the Golden Hawks are at home against Laney, who is receiving votes in the Class AA poll.

Both Aquinas (No. 5) and Lincoln County (No. 7) stayed put in the Class A poll, but Burke County and Washington-Wilkes both improved two spots.

In Class AAAA, Burke County, who beat Class AAAAAA Coffee this past week, is now No. 6. The Bears play No. 2 Statesboro at home this Friday.

In Class AA, Washington-Wilkes jumped to No. 8.
