Laney football ranked in newest AP poll

Laney has moved into the rankings for its big non-region game against Westminster of Atlanta this Friday.

Coach Lemuel Lackey’s team, a 43-0 winner against Butler on Friday in its season-opener, is ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press Georgia high school football poll for Class AA. It’s Laney’s first poll appearance since 2008. Laney’s next opponent, Westminster, is 0-2 but is receiving votes.

Lincoln County kept its No. 1 spot in Class A. It received eight out of 10 first-place votesafter it beat McCormick 24-0. Fellow Region 7-A school Aquinas (1-0) held at No. 5.

Washington County (2-0) stayed at No. 4 and Thomson (1-0) jumped up to No. 6 in Class AAA.

In Class AAAA, Burke County, which had a bye after losing to Thomson, dropped a spot to No. 9.
