Aquinas softball player gets national recognition

Aquinas softball player Jessica Johnson has been named the MaxPreps/National Fastpitch Coaches Association High School Player of the Week.

Johnson, a sophomore, hit .647 in six games to earn the honor, according to a release. She hit three home runs, drove in nine and stole six bases as the Irish went 4-2. In a 9-1 win against Jenkins, Johnson went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

The catcher/third baseman is hitting .632 this season and has scored 13 runs.

Aquinas (4-3) plays at Richmond Academy at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
