NORTH AUGUSTA — North Augusta needed just one half to go ahead comfortably. In that amount of time, DeVonte Pressley put in a game’s worth of yards.

North Augusta's DeVonte Pressley (left) tries to outrun a trio of Midland Valley defenders. The running back rushed for 150 yards on 15 carries and had two touchdowns in Thursday's win.

Pressley rushed for 150 yards before halftime and the rest of the North Augusta football team dominated as the Yellow Jackets routed Midland Valley, 49-0, on Thursday evening. With the easy win, many key players got to rest up for next week’s big game against Valdosta, one of Georgia’s best teams in Class AAAAAA.

“I’m happy we got everyone in,” North Augusta coach Dan Pippin said about his players. “The thing is, we got to keep working.”

The Yellow Jackets’ offense rolled in the first half, scoring on six of seven possessions. The one time North Augusta didn’t score, it was stopped on downs inside the Mustangs’ 10-yard line.

Pressley was the biggest monster, needing only 15 carries to reach his total yards and get two touchdowns in two quarters of work. The running back had little trouble finding the lanes or the outside thanks to the offensive line, and when he did come across defenders, he cut by or sped past them.

By halftime, North Augusta (2-0) had 240 yards on the ground and it was 42-0. In the second half, Willie McCloud joined the 100-yard threshold with his 105 yards. As a team, North Augusta rushed for 367 yards and gained 542 total yards.

And with Cody Turner and Trib Reece providing balance with their arms – a perfect Reece throw found Dre Dunbar for a touchdown pass – the Yellow Jackets had 28 points before the Mustangs got a first down.

Midland Valley, which plays one classification below North Augusta, tried to get its running game started early, but Dre Carr was stuffed.

When the Mustangs attempted to move through the air, passes were often knocked down and quarterback Trenton Baughman was under duress.

There was some success later in the game when Carr broke free for a 34-yard run, but the Mustangs never got onto the scoreboard.

“We got a lot of work to do,” Midland Valley coach Rick Knight said.

NA TD

Correction on the TD pass to Dre Dunbar. NA Sophomore QB Trib Reece was the QB who made the throw. Reece was 2-3, 106 yds, and 2 TD's on the night. Turner was 5-9, 56 yds, 0 TD's. The young man who made the throws deserves the credit.

Looked like NA has a great

Looked like NA has a great team, may be hard to say since this game turned into a JV game in the second quarter. It would be nice if a CSRA team could do something with Valdosta next week.
