NORTH AUGUSTA — Following just a short, early evening Wednesday schedule, this year’s EYBL Finals at the Nike Peach Jam is off to a busy Thursday start
Games tipped off at 9 a.m. and many of the big-time men’s college basketball coaches were ready to go. Florida’s Billy Donovan, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and Minnesota’s Tubby Smith have been some of the coaches going from gym to gym to see the high-quality high school prospects.
Locally, North Augusta boys basketball coach Al Young is catching some of the action. The Yellow Jackets coach brought his granddaughter and expects to be around for most of the day and tournament, especially with all the action only at North Augusta’s Riverview Park Activities Center.
“The main thing is to watch the athletes play and see how they do things. Sometimes I can pick up some things,” Young said. “But it’s really just about watching the quality of their play.”
One the court, Jabari Parker — currently the No. 1 recruit for the 2013 class — isn’t playing for Mac Irvin Fire due to a foot injury. His absence was expected.
