Undefeated Washington County, the No. 1 team in the South subregion, went ahead by 11 points after the first quarter and was never in serious trouble during a 66-42 victory over Grovetown in the Region 3-AAA Tournament quarterfinals Thursday night.
The Lady Hawks advanced to meet South No. 3 Hephzibah today in a semifinal.
Allisha Gray scored 16 of Washington County’s 18 points in the first quarter, and she didn’t let up there. The junior finished with 38 points.
The Lady Hawks, winners of 57 games in a row and 25-0 this season, will have to beat the Lady Rebels for the third time this season to advance to the region championship game.
Grovetown was led by Malia Kency. The guard hit a 3-pointer in all four quarters.
WESTSIDE 66, GLENN HILLS 36
The Lady Patriots, seeded first from the North subregion, were pushed early but stretched their lead into safe territory the final two quarters.
Four players reached double digits for Westside. Azia Gibson and Ritzy Griffin both had 15 points as Westside ran the floor and had success inside.
Westside hasn’t lost since Dec. 16, but that defeat came to Cross Creek, which is the team the Lady Patriots have to beat tonight if they are to play for a region championship.
Against the Lady Spartans, Westside (23-3) was down six after the first quarter but surged ahead by holding Glenn Hills to 11 total points in the second and third quarters.
The Lady Spartans defeated Richmond Academy on Tuesday to get their shot against the Lady Patriots.
