The North Augusta senior signed her letter of intent Tuesday to play center midfielder for the Patriots as family, friends and teammates surrounded her.
“I’m excited to play on that level,” Pierner said. “It’s what you work for and hope to do one day so it’s definitely a big accomplishment. I’m so excited about the opportunity.”
She knew that Francis Marion was the one for her after a visit to the university.
“I met with the girls on the team and they were really nice and I felt at home with them,” she said of her decision. “The coach was really cool, too.”
It also helped that the university offers health physics as a major, she said.
Since she was 5 years old, soccer has been her favorite sport.
“My dad put us in everything when we were younger, but soccer is the one that stuck with me. I love it,” she said.
As Pierner prepares for her last season as a Yellow Jacket, she plans to make the most of it.
“I’m going to play my hardest,” she said.
