HARLEM — Thomson High again routed the Harlem boys Friday, 64-37, in a Region 3-AAA game, but not with the same domination as before.
In Thomson head coach Michael Thomas’ 500th win on Jan. 10, Thomson humiliated Harlem 101-36.
In the team’s second meeting, Harlem played better defense, especially beneath the boards, but they still couldn’t matchup to a team that boasts nine players over 6 feet.
Thomson’s Anthony Moss and Jonathan Atkins combined to score 14 points in the first quarter, while Alonzo Hill and Dylan Farmer were the only Harlem players sinking any shots.
Farmer led the scoring with 19. Harlem freshman star Reggie Reid only scored twice in the third period for four total points.
In addition to a lack of points from Reid, Harlem too often turned the ball over on poor passes.
When they generated steals and defensive rebounds of their own, the Harlem boys often failed to convert them into points.
Atkins had 16 points, including a jumper at the buzzer to cap the game, followed by Moss with 14.
The Thomson girls also won, 47-23.
Thomson nearly held the Harlem girls scoreless in the first period, keeping the team to just three pooints with a last-second jump shot, while Thomson put up nine.
At the half, Thomson had built up an 10-point lead they then stretched to 19 points by the end of the third.
In the fourth period, Thomson started to heat up in more ways than one. They put up 18 points, but also generated two technical fouls when Ke’Onda Bradshaw started a scuffle and Wanda Hightower-Lockett committed an intentional foul.
Bradshaw was ejected from the game, as was Nekia McNair for coming off the bench when the shoving started.
Thomson’s Jaylan Howard led the scoring with 15 points, nine of which came from 3-pointers.
