The Bears are going back to Atlanta.

The Burke County football team will take a trip Monday to the Georgia State Capitol to be recognized for its 2011 Georgia High School Association Class AAA state championship. The Bears beat Peach County, 28-14, on Dec. 10 in the Georgia Dome to win their first state title.

“It’ll be an exciting and an educational trip,” Bears coach Eric Parker said. “A lot of kids have never been inside the Capitol building.”

All players and coaches are going, and the team is expected to meet Gov. Nathan Deal between 10 and 10:30 a.m., Parker said. The Bears will give the governor a No. 11 jersey.

“These kids deserve to get recognition,” Parker said. “It’s a great honor for the community as well as the kids.”
