Burke County routs Drew

WAYNESBORO, Ga. — Burke County began its quest for a state title with a blowout.

Donquell Green rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bears to a 42-7 rout of Drew in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs on Friday night.

Burke County, champions of Region 3-AAA, led 28-0 at the half and coasted the rest of the way.

The Bears, who get Woodward Academy at home in the second round, outgained the Titans 454-158 on the ground.

Bradley Street had five catches for 109 yards for Drew.

In Tyrone, Ga., defending state champion Sandy Creek pounded Butler in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs.

The Bulldogs, who were making their first trip to the state playoffs since 2003. finish the season 8-3.

The Fighting Patriots, who won their 40th consecutive game, will face the winner of the Troup-Cedar Grove contest.

LINCOLN COUNTY 35, COMMERCE 14

In Lincolnton, Ga., Craig Jones, Mikey McIntire and Cody Streetman had two rushing touchdowns apiece to help Linocln County cruise in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

The Red Devils, who amassed 329 yards on the ground, will take on Clinch County next week.
