Washington County downs Grovetown to earn playoff spot

GROVETOWN — Wash­ington County suffered a first-round exit as a No. 3 seed in the Class AAA state playoffs last season.

Next week, the Golden Hawks have a shot at redemption.

Quarterback William Walker rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown as Washington County clinched a state playoff berth with a 35-3 rout of Grovetown in a Region 3-AAA play-in game on Friday night.

The Golden Hawks, who fell to Americus-Sumter in the first round a year ago, will hit the road next week to face the No. 2 seed out of Region 4-AAA.
