Red Devils coach Larry Campbell said he might have never seen a better first half.

His quarterback, Denzel Gunby, threw for almost 300 yards as Lincoln County remained undefeated with a 44-22 win against Aquinas.

Gunby finished with 261 passing yards and three touchdowns and added 97 yards on the ground with a score.

It was another strong game for Gunby, who broke his leg last season. But Campbell has noticed his growing confidence since the first game this year.

Gunby said it’s hard to completely forget about the injury, but he said he’s thinking about it less.

With Gunby healthy, Lincoln County is 8-0 and the offense is averaging 37.8 points per game. The offense has been potent even with quarterbacks Franklin Sherman and Garrett Mohr graduating this past school year.

“We had two senior quarterbacks last year. I felt there were very big shoes to fill,” Gunby said. “But I think we’re still getting better and better (each week).”
