Lewis Watkins knew he rushed for a big number of yards, but when an assistant coach texted the amount to Watkins’ father Saturday night, Watkins was still a little surprised at the total.

The senior rushed for 354 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries and also scored on a kickoff return and an interception return as the Panthers defeated North Cobb Christian 82-48. It was the third-highest scoring game in GHSA history.

“It means a lot to help my team on offense and defense,” said Watkins, who is nearing 1,000 rushing yards on the season.

Watkins played on only two series in the second half but Glascock County scored on both as it got its second win of the season.

“He’s elusive,” Glascock County coach Chris Kelley said. “He’s smaller but when he gets out in the open field, he’s shifty.”
