Two quick pins along with a victory by forfeit made for a perfect night for the Greenbrier senior in the 152 weight class. It highlighted a three-win night for the Wolfpack in a meet with Evans, Westside and Richmond Academy held at Evans.
"I actually just went out there and tried to work on moves," said Moorhead, who made an individual state championship appearance last season in Class AAAAA before Greenbrier moved down to AAAA.
Greenbrier defeated Evans 51-15, Westside 54-24 and Richmond Academy 53-24.
Moorhead noted that the Wolfpack lost a number of seniors to graduation. They also have new leadership in coach Gralyn Harris, who took over for Brett Cooper.
Westside earned victories over Richmond Academy (60-24) and Evans (54-21).
Josh Bowles in the 285 weight class and Jaylen Rhoney at 171 led the way for the Patriots. Each went 2-0 on the night.
"We've made amazing progress at Westside," said Rhoney, a three-year varsity starter. He stressed that coach Kevin Waters has brought the program to a new level.
Richmond Academy got its lone victory of the night against Evans, winning 42-33.
The Musketeers got a boost from Marvin Davis at 285 and Jabari Odom at 215, both of whom finished a perfect 3-0.
Evans was up against the wall from the start of the meet.
The Knights had to scratch six out of the 14 weight classes because wrestlers did not make their desired weight.
While the Knights lost all three matches, they had several notable efforts.
At the 145 weight class, Nathan Chavez won a pair of matches and scored a victory by forfeit.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Rhys Cowling, had a memorable night; he pinned all three of his opponents.
"I've pinned people before, but I haven't ever gotten all three pins in one night," said Cowling, who wrestled at 160 for the first time this season after having been at 171.
"To make it to state, you have to get at least top four in the region," he added. "I've gotten as high as fifth before, so I'm hoping to get to state this year."
