Bulldogs end season on a positive note

  • Follow High school
Butler 30, Josey 22

PLAY OF THE GAME: With the clock running out in the first half, Butler freshman Sanquez Doby fielded a punt, cut to his left and raced down the Eagles' sideline for a 58-yard punt return to give the Bulldogs a 22-14 lead at the half.

STAR OF THE GAME: Butler running back Jeffrey Menefee cracked the 1,000-yard mark on his eighth carry of the game. Menefee finished with 87 yards on 13 rushes and had a pair of two-point conversions.

WHY BUTLER WON: It mixed an effective ground game with several big plays.

WHY JOSEY LOST: The Eagles (4-6) couldn't establish much of a running game, yet still had a chance to tie the game late before Markquis Burton 's desperation heave into the end zone was batted down.

QUOTABLE: "We had a good week of practice and we kept telling the team that we had a lot to still play for. We weren't really focused early on, but we got it done. We're 7-3 and had the best record in Augusta. We're very excited about where we're headed." -- Butler coach Ashley Harden

NEXT: Season complete for both teams.

Seems almost impossible to go

Seems almost impossible to go winless for 4 yrs and then have the best record in the region this year at 7-3 and not make the playoffs. This new region setup really wreaks. Whoever created this rediculous play in game with only 9 regular season games, needs to rethink this mess. They should go back to the teams with the most wins and losses and then the region schedule so that a pile of below 500 teams aren't wasting a playoff spot for other teams that truly deserve a shot.
