Predators hold off War Eagles on road

  • Follow High school

PLAY OF THE GAME: With Fox Creek clinging to a single-score lead in the fourth quarter, safety Devan Buchanan stepped in front of a Sam Clarke pass for a huge interception as the War Eagles were driving.

STAR OF THE GAME: Fox Creek quarterback Marty Williams , the area's leading rusher, had 302 yards of total offense -- 143 rushing and 159 passing.

WHY FOX CREEK WON: Persistence. The Predators were inconsistent and at times undisciplined, racking up 60 yards in penalties, but they kept at it and got the job done in the fourth quarter.

WHY WAGENER-SALLEY LOST: The War Eagles had opportunities in the second half, but a long dropped pass to an open receiver hurt and a big fumble recovery was for naught as Wagener-Salley seemed to run out of steam in the fourth quarter.

QUOTABLE: "I was worried because it's been an emotional week for us, a bit of a down week for us (after a player experienced a death in the family) and I knew (Wagener-Salley) was going to be ready to play. But it was a good win for us." -- Fox Creek head coach Russ Schneider

NEXT: Fox Creek plays host to North, 7:30 p.m. Friday; Wagener-Salley travels to Williston-Elko, 7:30 Friday.
