Still tainted by the cheating.
Jarrett Troxler will become Lakeside's next football coach, pending approval tonight by the Columbia County school board, board member Mike Sleeper told The Augusta Chronicle this afternoon.
Troxler was Lakeside's assistant head coach and offensive coordinator under head coach Jody Grooms.
Grooms left in February to become the head coach and athletic director at Wayne County High. The Panthers former coach was waiting to see whether Troxler would join him on his new staff. Grooms is expected to take Panthers offensive line coach Phillip Johnson.
Lakeside's search committee concluded interviews this past week.
This would be the first head coaching job for Troxler. As an assistant, he had followed Grooms to previous stops.
Troxler coached Lakeside the first two games of the 2008 season after Grooms was suspended for calling an illegal play at the end the 2007 season.
Still tainted by the cheating.
beaufordT - Are you kidding? That happened how many years ago? It might be time to get past that now. I'm sure you've done some shameful things in your life, and would probably prefer that people wouldn't hold them against you for years and years.
Greenbrier's offense last season was horrible!! There was no imagination, no creativity at all. Dive left, dive right, incomplete pass, punt. It was frustrating to sit in the stands and watch. One game, everyone in the stands sat and watched as the coach gave up on the team and let the clock run out, even though they were past the 50-yard line and already down 2-3 scores. Everyone just sat silent and looked around at each other wondering what happened. I felt sorry for the kids. Hopefully Troxler will install a new offense that isn't so predictable.
Hey DMac why don't you read the article...it's about Lakeside! Also for the writer, your headline is terrible...
Jody Grooms once remarked that he didn't have a system when he was asked why Lakeside did so well. It was just hard work. I hope Troxler has learned the enthusiam and work ethic from Grooms over the years to keep Lakeside on top. Kids pick up on the dedication and emulate the coach.
Thanks Mike Sleeper and Stephen Fastenau for making yourselves feel important by releasing this news before allowing the school to share the news with their staff and players.
Thanks chronicle for killing the surprise we had set up for the players.
MisterC, what's wrong with the headline? Looks fine to me.
