The GreenJackets, who are the Class-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are expected to announce the 2010 staff today, which will again include Machemer, pitching coach Steve Kline and hitting coach Lipso Nava.
"I like Augusta. I like the people there, and the town's been good to me," Machemer said. "And I'm absolutely ecstatic about having (Kline and Nava) back with me.
"It's a dream come true for a manager when you have guys like that on your staff."
Machemer, with more than 20 years of experience as a minor league manager, earned his 1,300th career win during his first year in Augusta last season. Kline will return for his second year as a pitching coach, and Nava will begin his third season in Augusta.
"I'm extremely happy to have this coaching staff back," GreenJackets general manager Nick Brown said. "They did a great job last year, and we look forward to having them here again."
South Atlantic League all-star trainer L.J. Petra will not return to the team after being named the trainer for the Advanced-A San Jose Giants. Taking Petra's spot will be David Getsoff, who will begin his second season in the Giants' system and first in Augusta. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native served as athletic trainer for short-season Salem-Keizer last summer.
The Giants also announced that former GreenJackets skipper Andy Skeels, who led the San Jose Giants to a league championship this year at the Advanced-A level, will move up to Double-A to manage the first-year Richmond Flying Squirrels.
