Ex-Thomson golfer is NJCAA medalist

In Chautauqua, N.Y., former Thomson High golfer Ethan Chamineak, a freshman at Georgia Military College, was the individual winner in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III golf championship, which concluded on Friday.

Chamineak shot 70-73-73 to finish at even-par 216 at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course. He beat Aaron Rondon, of Southwest Wisconsin Tech, by a shot.

Chamineak attends the Augusta campus of the Milledgeville school.

The tournament was scheduled for 72 holes, but the third round was washed out.

Georgia Military College finished fifth, eight shots behind winner Vincennes.

The Bulldogs closed with 13-over 301. They counted 73s by Chamineak, Kevin McKleroy, 75 by Bruce Ferguson and 80 by Jack Barber. Clay Cape had the noncounting 82.
