“I like the golf course a lot, it reminds me of Forest Hills, where we played in college,” Floyd said. “It’s not too long and you can get to some of the par-5s, but mostly it’s the tree-lined fairways, which I’ve become accustomed to in Augusta. I feel pretty good about it.”
Floyd birdied Nos. 1 and 4 to make the turn at 2-under 34 then birdied Nos. 11, 15, 16, 17 and 18.
He entered the week with six top-10 finishes in his past seven eGolf Tour starts. Including Wednesday’s 65, Floyd has shot in the 60s in 18 of his past 25 rounds on the eGolf Tour.
The top-10 stretch began with a tie for seventh in the Mimosa Hills Open in June and ended with a runner-up finish at the Columbia Open in September.
“I was playing well there at the end of that stretch, but this is just my third start out here since the end of August,” said Floyd, who made Web.com Tour Q-School stops in Georgia and Florida in the weeks between. “I was just trying to make sure I didn’t get burnt out by playing too much.”
Augusta’s Dykes Harbin shot 67 and is one of six players tied for second.
Mitch Krywulycz, a former college teammate of Floyd’s, shot 68 and is one of four players tied for eighth.
