Augustan is fourth in Georgia Amateur

In Kennesaw, Ga., Augusta’s Jeff Knox is tied for fourth place after the first round of the Georgia Amateur Championship at Pinetree Country Club.

Knox, who is 50 years old, shot 1-under-par 70 and is three shots off the lead of David Noll Jr., of Dalton, who is a two-time champion.

Knox leads a large contingent of players with area ties.

They are Kelby Burton (71), Cody Shafer (72), Austin Vick (73), Chris Waters (74), Chase Parker (74), Lee Knox (76), Jacob Tilton (76), William Sigg (76), Brian Carter (78), Evan Usry (78) and Davis Parker (83).

The starting field of 144 will be cut to the low 70 and ties after Friday’s round.
