Junior golfer continues his strong play

In Aiken, Carson Young led Pendleton (S.C.) High to the first round lead in the Southern Cross Junior Invitational at Palmetto Golf Club.

Young, who shot 72-70-70 to win the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley on Sunday, shot 3-under-par 68 on Friday to help the Bulldogs shoot 7-over 220. In addition to Young, Austin Langdale had 73 and Trevor Rochester shot 79. Each team played four players and counted the low three.

South Aiken, which got 69 from Alex Handy, is in second place at 223. North Augusta is 13th at 233 and Aiken is tied for 21st at 249.

Blythewood’s Bryce Howell leads the individual race with 67.
