Brad Faxon, Jeff Sluman lead at Legends of Golf

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Brad Faxon’s steady putting helped he and teammate Jeff Sluman to 10 birdies and a one-shot lead in the Champions Tour’s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.

Faxon had seven birdies as the duo combined for a 10-under-par round in the better-ball team event at the Club at Savannah Harbor.

Eight-time major champion Tom Watson and partner Andy North finished the opening round in a three-way tie for third at 8-under. Craig Stadler and Kirk Triplett also teamed for 64, along with Tom Kite and Gil Morgan.

LPGA TOUR: In Irving, Texas, Caroline Masson bogeyed three of her last four holes for even-par 71, leaving her with a one-stroke lead after the second round of the North Texas Shootout.

Masson was 7 under overall at Las Colinas Country Club.

EUROPEAN TOUR: In Seoul, South Korea, Wade Ormsby birdied two of his closing three holes to share the clubhouse lead with Arnond Vongvanij in the second round of the rain-affected Ballantine’s Championship.

Ormsby shot 5-under-par 67 at Blackstone Resort to tie Arnond (69) at 137 overall.

WEB.COM TOUR: Former Georgia golfer Hudson Swafford shot 67 to take a one-shot lead at the South Georgia Classic.

Swafford is at 8-under 136 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

Aiken’s Kevin Kisner shot 73 and is tied for 49th. Scott Parel, of Augusta, missed the cut after posting 79.
