Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez breaks shinbone

Miguel Angel Jimenez has broken his right shinbone and will be sidelined for up to five months, dashing his hopes of qualifying for the 2013 Masters Tournament.

The Spaniard, who is 54th in the World Golf Ranking, hadn’t qualified for the 2013 Masters Tournament before the injury. If he moved into the top 50 two weeks before the Masters, he would have qualified.

Jimenez has played in 14 Masters, with his best finish being an eighth in 2008. He has played in every Masters since 2005.

He finished 56th of the 61 players to make the cut in the 2012 Masters after shooting 76-81 on the weekend.

Jimenez said in a statement Sunday that he had surgery on his leg after injuring it while skiing Saturday.

“I was playing well, but you have to take life as it comes,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez was a vice captain on Europe’s Ryder Cup-winning team in September.

In November, the 48-year-old Jimenez became the oldest European Tour winner by capturing his third Hong Kong Open title. He has 19 career European Tour titles.

Sad!

Jimenez is one of my favorite golfers. He balances an eclectic lifestyle with a serious professional golf schedule. He is THE Renaissance man of the golf world. Look up his bio; it's very interesting.
