Ex-Westside star wins college event

In Duluth, Ga., South Carolina’s Dykes Harbin, a former Westside golfer, won his first collegeiate individual title, taking the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic by two shots.

Harbin, a senior who led by three shots going into the final round, closed with 1-over-par 72 to finish at 3-under 210. He opened with rounds of 66-72 in the 54-hole event at Berkeley Hills Country Club’s Course No. 1.

A trio of players tied for second place, including U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox, of Chattanooga.

South Carolina freshman Matt NeSmith, of North Augusta, tied for 67th place after rounds of 77-78-78–233 as the Gamecocks tied for seventh place.

Georgia Southern won the tournament by seven shots over Georgia State.

USC Aiken, the lone NCAA Davision II team in the field, tied for 10th place after a final round of 6-over 290, its best round of the week by 14 shots.

For the Pacers, J.P. Solis (76-76-72) tied for 27th place, Kyle Godsman (79-78-71) tied for 47th, Matt Atkins (77-78-75) tied for 54th, Mark Dickson (72-81-78) tied for 60th and Andrew Ward (80-80-72) tied for 64th.

It was the final event of the fall season for the Pacers.
