Augusta’s Laura Coble came up short Wednesday in her bid to win her first U.S. Mid-Amateur title.

In a rematch of their 2009 semifinal, Coble lost to Meghan Stasi, 6 and 5, at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. Three years ago, Coble defeated Stasi to advance to the finals, where she lost to Martha Leach.

Coble sought her third major title this year. In May, she won the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship at Sunset Hills. In August, she claimed the Georgia Women’s Amateur Championship in Augusta at Deer Creek in Savannah.

The 48-year-old Coble, who will be inducted January into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, did get something out of her deep run into the U.S. Mid-Amateur. She locked up her fourth consecutive (14th overall) Georgia State Golf Association Women’s Player of he Year award.
