Ex-Greenbrier golfer makes U.S. Amateur

Former Greenbrier golfer Chris Waters qualified for the U.S. Amateur on Wednesday at Atlanta's Piedmont Driving Club

Waters, an Athens, Ga., resident, shot 67-69–136 to tie for fourth place.

The top six finishers earned spots in the U.S. Amateur, scheduled for Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo, Aug. 13-19.

Georgia Tech golfer Oliver Schniederjans, of Powder Springs, Ga,. was the medalist at 67-65–132.

Of the other area players in the qualifier, Brian Carter (69-71–140) tied for 11th place, Dykes Harbin (70-71–141) tied for 14th, Lee Knox (73-73–146) tied for 29th, Davis Parker (75-74–149) tied for 41st, Chase Parker (70-80–150) tied for 46th and Jacob Tilton (75-82–157) tied for 59th.
