LAST WEEK: Ernie Els won the British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes for his second victory in the event and fourth major championship. The 42-year-old South African made a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole to reach 7 under, and won when Adam Scott missed a 7-footer on No. 18 for his fourth consecutive bogey.

LAST EVENT: Roger Chap­man won the U.S. Senior Open on July 15 to join Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Hale Irwin as the only players to win the tournament and Senior PGA Championship in the same season. Chapman finished at 10 under at Indianwood for a two-stroke victory.
