Martinez's Emmanuel Kountakis and Augusta's Greyson Sigg help Georgia team earn tie

Martinez’s Emmanuel Kountakis and Augusta’s Greyson Sigg helped Georgia tie South Carolina in the first day of of the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match at Cuscowilla in Eatonton, Ga.

In the match-play singles format, each of the eight matches were worth a point for a win and half point for a half, the teams tied 4-4. The final round, also consisting of eight singles matches, will be played today.

Kountakis beat Trace Crowe, of Easley, 1-up and Sigg halved with Beaufort’s J.D. Lehman, earning a half-point.

Aiken’s Ryan Carpenter, the only local player on the South Carolina team, lost 1-up to Harry Lambert, of Suwanee.

In today’s matches, Kountakis will take on Lehman, Sigg meets Crowe and Carpenter takes on Christopher Guglielmo of Cumming.

Georgia leads the series 22-13-1.
