GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Augusta teenager Matt NeSmith will tee it up for the first time on the PGA Tour in August.
The incoming freshman on the University of South Carolina golf team won the American Junior Golf Association’s FJ Invitational on Friday at Cardinal Golf & Country Club.
The FJ Invitational winner receives a spot in the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, which starts Aug. 16.
“That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do since I was a little kid, play in a (PGA) tour event,” NeSmith said. “It’s a really cool thing to have under my belt now, but it was definitely hard.”
NeSmith carried a four-shot lead into the final round and closed with even-par 70 to win by a shot over Motin Yeung, who had 67.
