Milton High School swept the Class AAAAA competition at the GHSA state championships Monday, with titles for both the boys and the girls and the girls’ low individual.
The Eagles posted 142 to beat Cherokee by 11 shots at West Lake Country Club, aided by freshman Rachel Dai’s rally on the back nine.
After faltering on No. 6, Dai entered the second nine 2 over par. But she made birdies on Nos. 14, 15 and 16 to finish with 69.
“I was here at West Lake two summers ago for a different tournament, so to come back here and play even better than I did two summers ago feels good,” Dai said.
Coach Deborah Martina said she is proud of her team’s performance because they’re so young. The Eagles feature two freshmen, a sophomore and a junior.
Tift County’s Brittany Jarrett took second with 70.
Out at Champions Retreat, the Milton boys (302) edged Benedictine Military School by one shot.
Jonathan Keppler from Kennesaw Mountain took medalist honors with 67.
