Garth Mulroy breaks through at Dunhill

MALELANE, South Africa — South Africa’s Garth Mulroy shot 4-under 68 Sunday to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship for his first European Tour title.

Mulroy began the day with a two-stroke lead. He was pushed by Scotland’s George Murray, but managed to birdie Nos. 15 and 16 to finish 19-under for the tournament.

Murray eagled the 15th at Leopard Creek while Mulroy bogeyed the 14th. But Mulroy responded with the consecutive birdies, including a 60-foot downhill putt on 16, and closed with two pars.

EUROPEAN/ASIAN TOURS: In Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Dutchman Joost Luiten won the rain-shortened Johor Open for his first European Tour title, closing with 6-under 65 for a one-stroke victory over Sweden’s Daniel Chopra.

Luiten finished at 15-under 198 at Horizon Hills in the event also sanctioned by the Asian Tour.

Defending champion Padraig Harrington, of Ireland, tied for third at 13-under.

LPGA TOUR: In Orlando, Fla., South Korea’s Hee Young Park won the season-ending Titleholders for her first tour victory, closing with 2-under 70 to hold off Paula Creamer and San Gal by two strokes.

Park finished at 9-under 279 at Grand Cypress. Creamer also shot 70. Gal had 72.

Top-ranked Yani Tseng shot 74 to tie for sixth at 2-under. She opped the money list with $2,921,713.

PEBBLE BEACH INVITATIONAL: In Pebble Beach, Calif., Harrison Frazar won the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational by a stroke when Cameron Tringale missed a 2-foot par putt on the final hole.

Frazar closed with even-par 72 to finish at 9-under 279. Tringale had 73 to tie for second with Matt Bettencourt.

The tournament featured players from the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Nationwide tours.
