Evans' Newman tied for 10th in eGolf event

Carter Newman cooled off in the second round of the eGolf Tour's Southern Open, but the former Augusta State golfer is still  in contention in his second pro start.

Newman, who opened with 66, had 70 in the second round and is tied for 10th, five shots off Adam Mitchell's lead.

Newman played his first round at the par-71 Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C., and played the second round at the par-72 River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C.

Seven other area golfers also made the cut, which fell at 142. Jay Haas Jr., (70-67) is tied for 15th, Kevin Grady (68-70) and David Robinson (65-73) are tied for 19th, Kyle Bradley (68-71) is tied for 27th, Cortland Lowe (73-67) and Stephen Poole (71-69) are tied for 38th and Mitch Krywulycz (68-73) is tied for 51st.

Area players missing the cut were Scott Parel (70-73), Dane Burkhart (77-70) and Brad Arrington (78-72), who did ace the 17th hole.
