Brooks leads Champions event by one in Iowa

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa --- Mark Brooks survived a shaky finish that left him with 4-under-par 67 and a one-stroke lead Saturday after the second round of the Principal Charity Classic.

Brooks, a Champions Tour rookie, finished 36 holes at 10-under 132. Mark Calcavecchia closed with 66, putting him 9 under at Glen Oaks.

Peter Senior (67) and Bob Gilder (66), who won the tournament in 2002, were 8-under.

LPGA TOUR: In Galloway, Township, N.J., Cristie Kerr birdied the final hole for 6-under-par 65 and a one-shot lead over Catriona Matthew (67) after the second round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Kerr, who won this event in 2004, is at 8-under 134 total.

Brittany Lincicome, looking for her first win since 2009, was alone at 6-under.

EUROPEAN TOUR: In Newport, Alexander Noren maintained his lead at the Wales Open after a third round in which defending champion Graeme McDowell shot 10-over-par 81 and fell 11 strokes off the pace.

Noren shot par 71 after four birdies on the back nine to total 8-under 205. He's one shot ahead of Anders Hansen (66) and Peter Hanson (69).

NATIONWIDE TOUR: In College Park, Md., Steve Wheatcroft fired 6-under-par 65 and extended his lead to eight strokes after 54 holes at the University of Maryland Golf Course.

He is at 22-under 191. Nicholas Thompson (64) is in second.
