Ex-Clemson golfer leads PGA Tour qualifying event

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. --- Former Clemson golfer Kyle Stanley shot 7-under 65 on the Crooked Cat course today for a two-shot lead over another ex-Tiger, Ben Martin, Scott Weatherly and Joseph Bramlett after the first of six rounds of the PGA Tour qualifying tournament at Orange County National.

The caddie for Camilo Villegas is also off to a good start. Brett Waldman holed a bunker shot for eagle on his first hole en route to 68.

David Robinson, of Sanders­ville, Ga., is 1 over and tied for 65th; Scott  Brown, of North Augusta, is 2 over and tied for 97th; and Will Claxton, of Swainsboro, Ga., is 3  over and tied for 117th.

Robinson played the par-72 Crooked Cat course, while Brown and Claxton played the par-71 Panther Lake course.

The low 25 players and ties will earn a PGA Tour card. The next number of finishers closest to 50 earn fully-exempt status on the Nationwide Tour. The remaining players will receive conditional status on the Nationwide Tour.
