CANONSBURG, Pa. --- Aiken resident Kevin Kisner won the Nationwide Tour's Mylan Classic on Sunday, moving him in position to earn a spot on the PGA Tour in 2011.
Kisner, who started the day three shots off the lead, closed with 4-under-par 67 for a one-shot victory. He won $108,000.
The former University of Georgia All-American moved from 50th to 14th on the tour's money list with $194,692.
The top 25 at the end of the season earn PGA Tour playing card for 2011. There are eight more tournaments this season and Kisner plans on playing in "six or seven" of them.
"That's the goal to start the year," Kisner said of playing his way onto the PGA Tour through the Nationwide money list. "Hopefully, I can move on up there and get to the top (of the Nationwide money list)."
Kisner won in his 26th start on the Nationwide Tour, where he has exempt status this season.
Playing in the second-to-last group Sunday, Kisner never looked at a leaderboard. So he didn't know third-round leader Geoffrey Sisk, in the final pairing, had made double bogey on No. 17, which gave Kisner a one-shot lead.
"I didn't know I was going to win even when I made that last putt," Kisner said of a 5-footer for par on No. 18. "My whole world turned upside down there in a minute.
"This game is so much about winning and you have to beat 155 great players in order to have a chance," Kisner, said. "This is pretty special."
Kisner had missed the cut in four of his six previous Nationwide events.
"I was pretty close in all those tournaments," Kisner said. "I was missing the cut by one. I was playing well.
"It all came together this week," said Kisner, who shot 68-68-68-67. "Plus, 28-under didn't win for the first time in a while."
Kisner's winning score at Southpointe Golf Club was 13-under 271.
The winning scores in the previous four events had been between 20- and 26-under.
Hang in there Kevin Kisner. Good job. I'm sure it is hard work to get there and you did it. Keep positive and the best to you.
chascus, Kevin picked the right school. He just lives on the wrong side of the river. Just a little "tongue in cheek" Georgia/South Carolina humor. Go Kevin where ever you live.
