Reed romps in first round of Public Links

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Augusta's Patrick Reed routed Travis Gahman, of Souderton, Pa., 7 and 6 today in a first-round match in the 85th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center.

The Augusta State golfer tied for second in 36 holes of stroke play qualifying with 8-under-par 134 and is the No. 3 seed, while Gahman qualified with 147 and was seeded 62nd.

Reed will face 35th-seeded Alex Edfort, of Somerset, N.J., who needed 20 holes to beat 30th-seeded Garren Poirier, of Killington, Vt., at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Poirier qualified for match play with 144, while Edfort shot 145.
