ATLANTA -- A Georgia Tech graduate won the bidding for a most prized piece of college football and school history – what is believed to be the game ball from Tech’s 222-0 win over Cumberland in 1916. His plans for the ball will undoubtedly please Yellow Jackets fans, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

“It’s not mine,” said Ryan Schneider, a 46-year-old Atlanta patent attorney. “It’s for the school.”

Schneider claimed the ball with a bid of $40,388, the 19th bid in the 19-day online auction conducted by SCP Auctions. It squashed the previous high for a football in the auction house’s online records, a football autographed by the 1966 Green Bay Packers, winners of the first Super Bowl, which went for $26,046.

Wow!

Thank you Mr. Schneider for donating the ball back to the school. Many years from now Tech alumni will remember your generosity - and the day in 1916 we kicked butt and took names!

Even though I think the game

Even though I think the game marks an epic LOW in sportsmanship and honor, the ball does belong in a place where that sort of thinking is commonplace and expected...Georgia Tech.
Now all the Techies can gather together, press their noses and fingers against the security glass, and ogle at one of the ultimate signs of selfishness and inconsideration. I am sure there is something in it to benefit the alum donor. They'll probably let him coach a Tech football game!

Stay classy, Tech!

Go Yellow Jackets!I pull for GA Tech - esp. if a Rabid Dawg fan

is near by. Cumberland showed up for this game - though they had discontinued their football program (to avoid a hefty fine) - amidst allegations of using Pro coaches to beat GA Tech on the baseball field.
They got what they deserved!
