*Utah battles past stubborn New Mexico*
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Ticker) -- Utah's BCS-busting dream remains alive ... barely.
The ninth-ranked Utes thwarted an upset attempt by stubborn New Mexico, 13-10, in a Mountain West game on Saturday.
Brian Johnson threw a pass to Jereme Brooks, who lateraled to Brent Casteel on a 10-yard hook-and-ladder for a touchdown that made it 13-3 in the third quarter.
Rodney Ferguson capped a 68-yard drive with a 1-yard run with one second left in the quarter to draw the Lobos (4-6, 2-4 MWC) within 13-10.
The Lobos were unable to dent the Utes' defense in the fourth quarter, which was scoreless. Johnson was 22-of-31 for 187 yards with a touchdown and interception.
Utah (9-0, 5-0) outgained New Mexico, 394-301. The Utes face a staunch test against 12th-ranked TCU on Thursday.
