*Boise State looks to complete 12-0 season* Fresno State (7-4) at (9) Boise State (11-0), 6:00 pm EST BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Still hoping for a BCS bowl game, Boise State first will look to run the table in the Western Athletic Conference. The ninth-ranked Broncos look to complete their second undefeated regular season in three years when they host Fresno State on Friday. A win would give Boise State (11-0, 7-0 WAC) an opportunity to match the school record of 13 wins set by the 2006 squad that edged Oklahoma, 43-42, in double overtime in a memorable Fiesta Bowl. Boise State's chances for an automatic BCS berth ended when Utah finished a 12-0 campaign with a 48-24 victory over Brigham Young last week. That likely locked up a BCS bowl berth for the Utes, who are sixth in the latest BCS standings - three spots ahead of Boise State. However, Boise State is still hoping for an at-large berth to one of the five BCS games. The Broncos at least will be eligible for consideration if they finish in the top 14 of the BCS standings. Last week, Boise State held off Nevada, 41-34, as freshman Kellen Moore passed for 414 yards and three touchdowns. Moore did throw three interceptions in the third quarter, allowing the Wolfpack to climb back into the game after trailing, 24-3, at the half. The win gave Boise State its sixth outright WAC title, regaining the crown it surrendered to Hawaii last season. The Broncos are 59-4 in the WAC since joining the league in 2001. Against Fresno State, Boise State will be looking for its 37th win in its last 38 contests on the blue turf. It also will be the final home game for running back Ian Johnson, the hero in the Broncos' win over Oklahoma two seasons ago when he scored the game-winning two-point conversion. Johnson rushed for his 55th career touchdown against Nevada, passing LaDainian Tomlinson for sole possession of second place on the WAC's all-time list. He is two TDs behind record-holder Marshall Faulk. The preseason favorite to win the WAC, Fresno State (7-4, 4-3) has endured a disappointing season after coach Pat Hill predicted his team would play in a BCS game. Still, the Bulldogs likely wrapped up a lesser bowl game last week with a 24-10 win over San Jose State. |
