*Maryland seeking third straight win vs. Virginia Tech* (21) Maryland (6-2) at Virginia Tech (5-3), 7:30 pm EST BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) -- Maryland has not had much success outside of College Park this season. The 21st-ranked Terrapins hope to end their road woes Thursday and collect their third consecutive victory when they visit Virginia Tech. Maryland also needs a win to maintain its edge in the ACC Atlantic Division race. The Terps (6-2, 3-1 ACC Atlantic) currently sit one-half game in front of Florida State and Wake Forest. After back-to-back home wins over conference rivals Wake Forest and North Carolina State, Maryland brings its 1-2 road record into Blacksburg, which is one of the toughest places to play in college football. The Hokies (5-3, 2-2 Coastal) have also done a good job defending their home field, winning all three games at Lane Stadium this year and their last five contest there overall. Virginia Tech, however, has lost its last games - both on the road. Florida State's defense handed the Hokies more than just a conference defeat two weeks ago. The Seminoles knocked Virginia Tech's top two quarterbacks from the game en route to a 30-20 victory. The injury bug bit the Hokies on the first play from scrimmage when starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor left the game with a high left ankle sprain. While the sophomore was rolling out to his right, he was taken down by Toddrick Verdell for one of Florida State's six sacks in the contest. Enter senior Sean Glennon, who left with a similar injury in the third quarter, leaving converted receiver Cory Holt to lead the offense. Both quarterbacks are questionable for Thursday's contest. Obi Egekeze kicked a 20-yard field goal with six seconds left to lift Maryland to a 27-24 victory over North Carolina State two weeks ago. Da'Rel Scott ran for 163 yards and a touchdown for the Terrapins, who have won five of their last six contests. With the score tied at 24-24, Maryland got the ball at its 8-yard-line and Chris Turner, who passed for 126 yards and a TD, orchestrated an 89-yard drive to setup Egekeze's game-winning kick. |
