USC Aiken men's golf advances to Division II finals

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. — USC Aiken will make its 17th appearance in the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship.

The Pacers posted a final-round 293 on Wednesday and placed seventh in the South/Southeast Regional, finishing one stroke ahead of Barton College.

The top seven teams in the regional advanced to finals May 20-24 in Hershey, Pa.

Nova Southeastern closed with 284 to win the regional. Also advancing to the finals are Barry, Columbus State, Florida Southern, Lynn and West Florida.

J.P. Solis led the way for the Pacers, shooting a final-round 73 to tie for fourth in the individual standings. He finished at 1-under-par 215.

Ben Taylor, of Nova Southeastern, shot 69 to earn medalist honors. He finished at 210.

Also counting for USC Aiken were Mark Dickson (69, 222), Taylor Welborn (75, 232) and Hayden Letien (76, 233). Matt Atkins (83, 235) had the noncounting score.
