Former Thoroughbred leads Pacers to baseball victory

AIKEN — Former South Aiken High standout Ben Donath went 3 for 3, with a double and a triple, and drove in two runs on Friday as 10th-ranked USC Aiken opened the season with a 10-6 victory over Lincoln Memorial at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

Ryan Metzler and Bryce Baur both had two hits for the Pacers, who overcame five errors. Metzler, Bill Gerstenslager and Ty Barkell had two RBI apiece. Donath and Josh Miller scored twice.

Nick Morabito had two RBI for Lincoln Memorial.

Tyler Stephan got the win, pitching two hitless innings of relief.

Seth Wooods took the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in one inning of relief.
