The top-seeded Lady Pacers (28-3) will face No. 8 Catawba (19-10) on Friday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the women’s Southeast Regional at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
The second-seeded Pacer men (21-7) will travel to Montevallo, Ala., for an opening-round game Saturday against No. 7 Wingate (20-11) at 3:30 p.m.
“I don’t know one thing about them besides we tried to play them the last four or five years and they wouldn’t play us,” Pacers coach Vince Alexander said of Wingate. “We’re looking forward to finding out a little bit more about them and going up against them.”
The film work and scouting reports have already started at USC Aiken in anticipation of the fifth national tournament appearance for both teams. The Lady Pacers, who went undefeated at home in the regular season, will enjoy home-court advantage.
“Just because we’re hosting, it doesn’t guarantee that we’re going to win, but it’s going to guarantee that we’re going to be on our own court, where our shooting percentage is much higher,” Lady Pacers coach Mike Brandt said. “We have great fan support here, and we’re looking forward to that. So we’re just excited and obviously we’ve won every game here so far this year. It’s a tough place for other teams to play.”
