Paine football schedule announced

Paine College will play six home games and four road games in the fall in its return to NCAA Division II football following a more than 50-year absence, according to the schedule released Tuesday by the school.

The Lions will open the season at Shorter in Rome, Ga., on Sept. 4, and play Livingstone in their home opener on Sept. 13.

The schedule also includes home games against Lane (Sept. 20), Morehouse (Sept. 27) and defending Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Albany State (Oct. 4), Edward Waters (Oct. 18) on homecoming, and Benedict (Nov. 8).

All home games will be played at Laney Memorial Stadium.

Other road games are Limestone (Oct.11) in Gaffney, S.C., Fort Valley State (Oct. 25) in Fort Valley, Ga., and Clark Atlanta (Nov. 1).

The Lions are scheduled to begin spring practice on Sunday and hold their first spring game April 3 at Lions Field in North Augusta.
