Paine women struggle early, fall to Benedict

COLUMBIA — London Richardson scored 16 points, Lateia Brailey and Ashley Thompson added 14 apiece, and the Benedict women picked up an 86-74 victory over Paine in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

The Lady Tigers (11-11, 8-2) shot 53 percent from the field (33 for 62) and extended their lead in the SIAC East Division race.

Benedict dominated the first half, taking a 54-25 lead into halftime. The Lady Lions shot just 21 percent (5 for 24) in the first half.

Paine attempted to claw back, outscoring the Lady Tigers 49-32 in the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Former Butler standout Ashley Watts had a game-high 24 points for the Lady Lions (9-12, 7-4), who have lost three of four. Ariel Brown added 16 points and Kiara Farley chipped in with 10.
